Around 1975, a few dog owners from the Redlands, Manly and Wynnum areas who attended the Wednesday night classes held by the Obedience Dog Club of Brisbane at Stones Corner, began thinking about forming a club of their own in the Redlands district.
There was a fairly large dog population, so surely there must be enough people who cared enough to have a well-behaved, socialised dog and to build a better relationship.
After many months of searching, an agreement was reached with the Soccer Club which had a lease on grounds at the old dump site at Capalaba. Towards the end of 1976, under the control of the ODCB, the first obedience training classes were held.
At a meeting in February 1977 it was decided that a new Club be formed called the Redlands All Breed Dog Obedience Club and so our Club was born. The ODCB gave a generous donation of trailer, 3 jumps (bar, broad & high) and $200 stock (choker chains and leads) to help get the Club underway.
The first trial held by the Club took place on February 18, 1978 on the training grounds at Capalaba and was very successful.
Since these humble beginnings, Redlands Dog Obedience Club Inc has grown from strength to strength to become the great Club we have today.
